GEAR Campaign talking points July 2009
|New York, 30 July 2009] The United Nations General Assembly will adopt a resolution on the System Wide Coherence Process before 14th of September, which will also include language about creating the new gender equality entity. The GEAR Campaign is asking all the supporters to take action discuss this resolution with the representatives of their governments in the next weeks.
The Campaign has prepared a talking points to help these discussion. In short, we have to tell governments to move forward on creating the composite gender equality entity and the appointment of an Under Secretary General to head it. We have to also emphasize that the entity must be ambitiously funded and with significant civil society engagement or it cannot achieve its goals. It is also vital to ask the donor countries to start making public funding commitments.
