FEMNET letter to African UN Member States

[Nairobi, 1 September 2009] FEMNET, the African focal point of the GEAR Campaign, sent a letter to African UN Member States, asking them to adopt the resolution for the new UN gender equality entity by the end of the 63rd UN General Assembly.

"FEMNET, as a Focal Point for the GEAR Campaign in Africa, urges African Member States to support the adoption of the Resolution to create a New, Strengthened and Consolidated gender entity, led by an Under Secretary-General, before the conclusion of the 63rd Session of the GA. We also urge you to support the creation of an Under Secretary position, that will lead the process of constituting the new entity, enabling it to remain prioritized and timely."
