European GEAR Working Group letter to EU MS on funding for the new entity

[Brussels, 31 July 2009] The European GEAR Campaign Working Group is urging EU Member States to start making concrete funding commitments for the new UN gender equality entity. The Working Group has shared its recent position paper on funding with the foreign ministers of EU Member States, reminding that the formal decision by UN General Assembly to reform the UN gender equality architecture will have to be accompanied by concrete funding commitments. As main donors of the current UN gender equality architecture, EU Member States with other key donor countries should start coordinating the leveraging of initial funds for the new entity.
