GEAR Campaign writes to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UNGA
[New York, 30 October 2009] The GEAR Campaign has written letters to the UN Secretary General and the President of the UN General Assembly and requested meetings to discuss the creation of the new UN gender equality entity.
In the letter sent to the Secretary Genera Ban Ki-moon, the GEAR Campaign urges him to move swiftly on the appointment of the Under Secretary-General (USG) to lead the new gender equality entity. The Campaign also presented to him its selection criteria for the post.
The letter sent to the President Ali Abdussalam Treki asks him to appoint without delay the co-Chairs to lead the intergovernmental process in which the details of the UN gender equality entity and other matters related to System-wide Coherence will be agreed on by the UN Member States.
