Member States ask UN to move forward with GEAR
[New York, 16 June 2009] UN Member States met up on Monday 8th June in another interactive meeting to discuss the details on the staffing and the organizational structure of the new gender equality entity. During the meeting the majority of member states called for the composite entity, although some questions and doubts were raised. With regard to next steps of the process, some Member States asked the Co-Chairs to draft a resolution for establishing the new gender equality entity, and offered their help in the process.
The Co-Chairs of the UN General Assembly have agreed to write summary and recommendations for steps forward. The Member States will meet again in June to discuss the document.
