High Level Panel’s Reports on System-wide Coherence

Kofi Annan meeting High Level Panel[New York, November 2006] A delegation of international leaders has produced a report after a series of high level meetings to discuss how efficient and effective the UN is in meeting its goals. The report concedes that gender equality is central to sustainable development that responds to the needs, rights, aspirations and talents of half the world’s people.

The Panel believes that the UN needs to replace several current weak structures with a dynamic UN entity focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment. This entity should mobilize forces of change at the global level and inspire enhanced results at the country level. The promotion of gender equality must remain the mandate of all UN entities.
